산중의 물레방아
🖼 ONE LINE FROM THIS PAINTING

"What does the watermill turning without rest in the mountains resemble?"

📝ONGO's Reflection

This is a hanging scroll of a mountain watermill scene by the Japanese painter Kishi Ganryo. Deep among the mountain slopes, the mill sits along the watercourse. In this secluded scene I see the figure of steadfastness. The watermill is not swift. It merely gives itself to the flowing water and turns evenly on. Without any brilliant leap, that unceasing rotation grinds the grain and feeds the village. It is not great force but unbroken repetition that accomplishes the work. Constancy, though it looks slow, in the end goes the farthest.
