Bird Near Water (from Album of Stu
"What heart is held in a single study sheet rather than a finished work?"
📝ONGO's Reflection
This is a study of a bird standing at the water's edge, from a Chinese album of unknown hand. It is not a finished work to be shown but a practice piece the painter made to train the hand. Even so, in the bird's posture and the grain of its feathers lives the care of one who looked at the subject again and again. In this study I see the root of skill. What people see is only the finished result, but that result stands upon countless unseen studies. Only the hand that has stacked up practice no one acknowledges does not waver in the decisive moment. Unseen practice makes the visible skill.
