🖼 ONE LINE FROM THIS PAINTING

"Does the fan in the hand cool the heat, or veil the heart?"

📝ONGO's Reflection

This anonymous Chinese painting holds women holding fans. A fan is a tool that stirs a breeze to cool the heat, and at the same time a thing that softly veils the face to hide the heart. A single object carries both uses together, cooling and veiling. This duality held in a small thing carries anywhere. Here I see the two sides of a tool. The same thing, by how it is used, may cool the heat or veil the truth. What is held in the hand is not the matter; what the heart that uses it turns toward always comes first.
