🖼 ONE LINE FROM THIS PAINTING

"What did people pray for, before long-living cranes and peaches?"

📝ONGO's Reflection

On silk, sea and cranes and the peaches of immortals unfold in gold across a six-panel screen. An unnamed artisan gathered the symbols of long life and blessing into one place, standing in splendidly for the wishes of those who look. The crane is said to live a thousand years and the peach to bear fruit once in three thousand, so this is humanity's long-held longing toward time. Beneath the wish for long life are those one wishes to remain with longer. A painting of longevity is, in the end, time's greed to keep what one loves close at hand.
