나룻배
🖼 ONE LINE FROM THIS PAINTING

"Where are the people, divided between two boats, going?"

📝ONGO's Reflection

In the ferry boats painted by Kim Hong-do, the people are split between two boats. To cross a river is, for a while, to ride the same boat. People of different origins and different stories sway in one boat to the same current. In this ordinary ferry scene I think about what it means to cross together. Even ties that will scatter once the destination is reached, for as long as they share the same boat, lead each to look after the other. There is no reason to take lightly even a companionship that brushes by for a moment.

Treat even someone who is with you only briefly with care, as a companion riding the same boat.
