"Watching puppets that move on strings, what were people laughing at?"
📝ONGO's Reflection
This is a puppet-play scene painted by Gisan Kim Jun-geun. The puppets, bound to unseen hands and strings, weep and laugh and mimic the lives of people. Onlookers laugh at the puppets, but in truth they see their own figures there. In this play I see reflection held at a distance. Moved onto puppets, the absurdity and sorrow of human life at last grow distinct. If I look at my own affairs from a step back, as at puppets, what strings I have been moving on is revealed. To know the strings that move me is the beginning of freedom.
