Munjado: Loyalty

문자도 ‘충(忠)’
🖼 ONE LINE FROM THIS PAINTING

"What does it mean that the character for loyalty holds both a dragon and a shrimp?"

📝ONGO's Reflection

Within the character chung, loyalty, a dragon climbing the heavens and a carp and shrimp in the water are held together. The painting unfolds the meaning that both the one risen to a high place and the lowly creature below keep to their proper part. Loyalty is not only a single devotion toward a king, but a constancy that fulfills the duty of one's place wherever one stands. In this letter-picture I see that when the center of the heart stands upright, the height or lowness of one's station cannot change its intent.
