Tiger and Magpie ( Hojakdo )

호작도(까치호랑이)
🖼 ONE LINE FROM THIS PAINTING

"Why is the fierce tiger painted to look so artless?"

📝ONGO's Reflection

The magpie-and-tiger painting draws the fearsome tiger as somehow artless and comical. The magpie in the tree chatters at such a tiger without the least restraint. I love the easy jesting of the common people held in this painting. However dreadful a thing may be, once it is painted and laughed off, that dread grows much smaller. A heart that does not see the fearful only as fearful, there lies the wisdom that governs fear. Faced head-on and laughed at, even a great shadow returns to its true size.
