At the Village Well

우물가
🖼 ONE LINE FROM THIS PAINTING

"What are the people gathered to draw water at one well sharing among themselves?"

📝ONGO's Reflection

Kim Hong-do painted women standing around a well to draw water while a man takes a dipper and wets his throat. People of different dress and different circumstance are joined by a single rope to one well. Water belongs to no one, yet it sustains everyone. I see in this painting that what gathers people together is not some grand cause but the shared, thirsty need of ordinary life. Beside the most common spring, people naturally fall in with one another.
