📖 Origin of the Hanja
Formed when Gyeongsang-do was split north-south in 1896. The land was originally the domain of the ancient Gaya Confederacy (1st-6th c.) — six kingdoms led by King Suro's Geumgwan Gaya (Gimhae). Contains Changwon, Gimhae, Jinju, and Tongyeong. Heart of Korea's shipbuilding industry — Samsung Heavy and DSME shipyards at Geoje. Site of Yi Sun-sin's Hansando victory and Nongae's leap at Jinju Castle.
