📖 Origin of the Hanja

Korean Chu descends from Chu Yeop (秋葉), a Song Chinese immigrant during King Injong's reign of Goryeo (1126). The ancestral seat is Chugye (秋溪, modern Pyeongtaek). The hanja "秋" combines grain (禾) and fire (火) — autumn's harvest and ripening. Nearly all Korean Chu descend from this single Chugye line. Chu Jeok (秋適), the Goryeo compiler of the Myeongsim Bogam, is the most renowned member.
