DAY 211

Oedipus Rex

Sophocles · -429
Οἰδίπους Τύραννος
📌 ONE QUESTION FROM THE BOOK

Are our efforts to escape destiny merely the very process of fulfilling it?

📝ONGO's Reflection

When I first read this play, I trembled at the tragic paradox of Oedipus, who draws nearer to ruin the harder he digs for the truth. Sophocles' insight cuts to the bone: blind flight only tightens the snare of fate around us. How often we ourselves, in trying to dodge a problem, become the very cause of a far greater one. Caught between human free will and a destiny already written, this masterpiece makes me wrestle deeply with what it truly means to find the courage to face the truth on one's own.

— ONGO · Curator
"How dreadful knowledge of the truth can be when there's no help in truth!"
Sophocles, Oedipus Rex
"지혜가 지혜로운 자에게 아무런 쓸모가 없을 때, 지혜롭다는 것은 얼마나 끔찍한 일인가!"

🌱Apply It Today

Don't make excuses to dodge a hard situation; face it head-on. The more frightening the truth, the more freedom you gain by having the courage to meet it first rather than avoid it, for that is when the knot of the problem comes undone.
