📖 Origin of the Hanja
The heartland of the millennium-long Silla kingdom. The hanja "慶尙" combines one character each from Gyeongju (慶州) and Sangju (尙州), two ancient great cities. Unified as Gyeongsang-do in 1314 under Goryeo, split north-south in 1896. Contains Andong, Gyeongju, Pohang, and Gumi. Holds two UNESCO World Heritage sites simultaneously — Andong Hahoe Village + Dosan Seowon, and Gyeongju Bulguksa + Seokguram. The heart of Korean Confucian culture.
