After completing his act, An Junggeun did not flee. He cried out "Korea Hurrah" on the spot and was arrested. What he feared was not death, but that his deed would be mistaken for private revenge. In prison he wrote his treatise on peace in East Asia, drawing to his final moment the larger picture of Korea, China, and Japan living together. When one person's righteousness springs not from hatred, it transcends an entire age. We too stand before small acts of righteousness every day. Whether that righteousness comes from anger or from a greater love decides the weight of the act.
