DAY 43

The Freed One's Work Dissolves Without a Trace

Bhagavad Gītā 4:23

📜 THE VERSE

For one freed from attachment, whose mind rests in wisdom, work done in pure devotion dissolves quietly, leaving no trace behind.

❓ TODAY'S QUESTION

Even after doing good, do I strain to leave a trace of 'I did this much'?

📝Reflection

In this verse I see the clearest form of action. Work done in pure devotion without attachment vanishes quietly, leaving not even the trace of 'I did it.' That cleanness — no self-congratulation, no lingering regret — is what makes the heart lightest. Here the Buddhist teaching of giving without a trace meets Laozi's saying that one accomplishes the work yet does not dwell in the credit. When I give something, I quietly withdraw my hand, so as not to leave behind even the thought of 'I did it.'
