📜 THE VERSE

Nine things scatter the mind — illness, dullness, doubt, heedlessness, laziness, craving, false seeing, failing to find footing, and losing what was gained.

💡 TL;DR

Patañjali does not leave the mind's enemies vague but counts out nine, one by one.

❓ TODAY'S QUESTION

If my mind keeps scattering lately, which of these nine stands at my door?

📝Reflection

Patañjali does not leave the mind's enemies vague but counts out nine, one by one. Citta-vikṣepa means "the scattering of the mind": illness, dullness, doubt, heedlessness, laziness, craving, false seeing, failure to find footing, and losing what was gained. Simply naming them wins half the battle. The moment vague "why am I like this lately" becomes "ah, this is doubt," the fog takes shape — and an enemy with a shape can be handled.

🌱Apply It Today

When your mind scatters today, name it as one of these nine — like 'this, right now, is laziness.'
