DAY 325

To Stop the Scattering — Gather on One Thing

Yoga Sūtra 1.32
기원후 2~4세기(파탄잘리)
ORIGINAL
तत्प्रतिषेधार्थमेकतत्त्वाभ्यासः (tat-pratiṣedhārtham eka-tattvābhyāsaḥ)
📜 THE VERSE

To prevent that scattering, practice gathering the mind on one single thing.

❓ TODAY'S QUESTION

Am I trying to hold ten things at once and grasping none of them well?

📝Reflection

Eka-tattva means "the one thing" — the single object on which to gather the mind. Patañjali's prescription is simple. Do not try to wrangle a scattered mind in ten directions; gather it into one place. The opposite of scattering is not suppression but concentration. Many candles blow out in the wind, but one gathered flame is hard to snuff. What exhausts us most today is not the volume of work but a mind torn ten ways. The moment it gathers on one thing, the mind regains its strength.

🌱Apply It Today

When your mind splits ten ways today, close every tab and give ten minutes to just one thing.
