DAY 19

Frankenstein

Mary Shelley · 1818
Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus
📌 ONE QUESTION FROM THE BOOK

When we unleash creations we cannot take responsibility for, who is truly to blame for the resulting tragedy?

📝ONGO's Reflection

Many know Frankenstein as the name of the monster, but it is in fact the name of the creator who made it. What drew me deep into this novel was not mere horror, but the tragedy woven from the desperate loneliness of an abandoned creation and the irresponsibility of its maker. Amid the scenery of human intellectual desire stretching endlessly outward, I wonder whether any other book poses so chilling a question about creation and responsibility.

"I was benevolent and good; misery made me a fiend. Make me happy, and I shall again be virtuous."
Mary Shelley, Frankenstein
"나는 선하고 다정했다. 그러나 불행이 나를 악마로 만들었다. 나를 행복하게 해주면, 다시 덕 있는 존재가 되겠다."
