Following Darwin's sentences as he observes the beaks of the Galápagos finches, I find myself overwhelmed by the wonder of life. The evolution Darwin spoke of is not simply that the strong survive. It is a great hymn to the flexibility of life—that those who best "adapt" to a changing environment are the ones who endure. My reason for taking out this old scientific classic and reading it again now is clear. It is to ask, rather than to fear the changes in the world, which parts of myself I should transform and which traits I should pass on. This book will evolve even your thinking.
