DAY 232

The Tempest

William Shakespeare · 1611
The Tempest
📌 ONE QUESTION FROM THE BOOK

What freedom do we gain when we let go of the anger and vengeance that imprison us?

📝ONGO's Reflection

When I closed the final act of this play, I tasted a deep sense of release in the scene where Prospero breaks his magic staff. That he, having subdued with a tempest the enemies who cast him out, should in the end choose forgiveness over revenge is a wonder. Shakespeare's last insight shows that true magic is not the power to dominate another, but the courage to free oneself from one's own pent-up feelings. The quiet peace that comes after the storm has cleared lingers long in my heart.

"We are such stuff as dreams are made on, and our little life is rounded with a sleep."
William Shakespeare, The Tempest
"우리는 꿈을 엮어 만드는 같은 옷감으로 지어졌고, 우리의 짧은 인생은 잠으로 둘러싸여 있다."

🌱Apply It Today

If an old grudge or resentment is gnawing at you, quietly set that burden down, even if only for today. You'll feel that forgiveness is for you, not for the other person.
