📌 ONE QUESTION FROM THE BOOK

To move people's hearts, what practical deficiencies in their lives must you first fulfill?

📝ONGO's Reflection

I came to this book worn out by classics that preach only ideal virtue. Guan Zhong's insight is realistic to the point of being chilling. "Only when the granaries are full do people understand propriety; only when food and clothing suffice do they understand honor and shame." That sentence struck me hard. Before any lofty cause, if you would lead people and change the world, you must first see to bread and warmth—a weighty truth. I wonder whether any other classic has seen so clearly into human nature and the workings of the economy. It is the essence of the practical, letting us dream of ideals with our feet planted in reality.

— ONGO · Curator
"When the granaries are full, they will know propriety and moderation; when clothing and food are adequate, they will know honor and disgrace."
Guan Zhong, Guanzi
"창고가 가득 차야 예절을 알고, 입고 먹는 것이 넉넉해야 영광과 치욕을 안다."

🌱Apply It Today

Before asking someone for a better attitude or behavior, first look into the most real, material need they currently lack, and make an effort to meet it.
