Mozi
Can unconditional, universal love overcome prejudice and the root causes of conflict in the world?
📝ONGO's Reflection
When I first encountered Mozi's cry to overturn the graded love of the Confucians—jian'ai, the love of all people equally—it sounded wildly idealistic. Yet the deeper I read, the more I had to nod at his diagnosis: that the selfishness of caring only for our own family and our own side is the root of every conflict in the world. In an age of chaos, where the strong trampled the weak, the voice of this practical philosopher crying out for peace and equality makes me reflect on the narrowness of my own life today.
