🌿The Lineage — How the Answers Split

After Aristotle defined a life well lived as activity in accordance with virtue, the question of the good life branched several ways. Epicurus found the good life in a mind free of pain and in simple pleasures; the Stoics saw virtue itself, unshaken by anything external, as the only good. The Eastern Confucius, by contrast, painted the good life not as a virtue perfected alone but as a life of relationship, lived humanely among others. Is a life well lived the activity of virtue, the peace of the mind, or the harmony of relationships? Painting different pictures of life, the question lives on twenty-four centuries later.
